Kalamazoo hot dog spot reopens at new downtown location

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A Kalamazoo hot dog restaurant called Copper’s Dog House will reopen Friday in its new location after an August break-in forced it to shutter its doors for more than a month.

“At that point, it was just a walk-up window,” Joey Gamrat, co-owner of Copper’s Dog House, said of the former spot. “It was hot dogs, tater tots, French fries and soft serve.”

Opened in October 2024, the original Copper’s Dog House served as a quick stop for hungry Kalamazoo residents visiting the Kalamazoo Mall, a popular dining and shopping district downtown.

“Our landlords approached us with this option to move our business just three doors down,” Gamrat said.

The new location for Copper’s Dog House offers many improvements over its previous, limited space — including indoor dining, an expanded menu and open hours year-round…
