Michigan factory abruptly closes, with 153 confirmed layoffs

Another Michigan plant has abruptly shut down, leaving more than one hundred workers without jobs and adding to a growing wave of factory losses across the state.

Pactiv Evergreen confirmed it has permanently closed its Kalamazoo facility, affecting about 153 employees, according to filings with state officials. The factory produced packaging materials for food and beverage companies and had operated in Michigan for many years.

The closure comes as trade tensions and tariff disputes continue to squeeze manufacturers nationwide. Simply put, the higher cost of raw materials and ongoing supply-chain volatility have made it increasingly difficult for smaller and mid-sized operations to stay competitive.
