Kalamazoo Heart Walk: Community rallies for CPR, preparedness at annual fundraiser

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — More than 500 community members are set to gather at Homer Stryker Field for the annual Kalamazoo Heart Walk.

The family-friendly fundraiser hosted by the American Heart Association aims to raise awareness for CPR and community preparedness, according to officials.

Featuring Hands-Only CPR Education, survivor celebrations and photo/video opportunities, this event runs from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday. It aims to raise $150,000.

“Approximately 9 out of 10 people who experience cardiac arrest outside the hospital die. In many cases, bystander CPR is not performed,” officials said. “Through fundraising, community education and corporate engagement, the Heart Walk expands local CPR training access, strengthens bystander readiness and supports research to save and improve lives from cardiovascular disease and stroke…”…
