Auto supplier IAC Group to cut nearly 250 jobs at Michigan plants

Auto supplier International Automotive Components Group plans to cut nearly 250 jobs at two production facilities in Michigan.

IAC Group, which bases its North American operations in Southfield and was founded by billionaire investor Wilbur Ross, will permanently lay off 178 people at its IAC Mendon LLC plant in St. Joseph County, southeast of Kalamazoo, and 68 workers at IAC Alma LLC in Alma. The layoffs at both facilities will occur on or about Dec. 8, according to filings with the state under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.

Neither WARN Act filing stated a reason for the layoffs. The filing indicated that some employees at both plants who are represented by a union may have bumping rights…
