Lawton and Antwerp Township argue over zoning for police firing range

LAWTON, Mich. (WOOD) — A public hearing on a dispute over whether Lawton police can use a firing range on village-owned land within neighboring Antwerp Township will have to be rescheduled.

The hearing, which was set for Thursday, was postponed because officials are working to navigate a conflict of interest: Both municipalities use the same law firm.

At the center of the dispute is a 62-acre parcel of wooded land that the village of Lawton owns. Most of it is within the village boundaries, but part is in Antwerp Township. That also happens to be the part where the Lawton Police Department has a firing range…
