American Axle to invest $133M at Southwest Michigan plant in shift from Mexico

American Axle & Manufacturing Inc. plans to invest $133 million to upgrade a Southwest Michigan plant as automakers, including its largest customer General Motors Co., boost U.S. production amid costly tariffs.

The Detroit-based automotive supplier will make capital improvements to the building in Three Rivers in St. Joseph County while adding and updating its assembly lines, enabling the company “to remain competitive with its ability to secure new OEM contracts,” according to a briefing memo from the Michigan Economic Development Corp.
