Accomplice in Bad Axe lottery scheme gets jail time

A Kalamazoo man who pleaded guilty in September for his role in a scheme in which he and another man used stolen credit card numbers to buy thousands of dollars’ worth of lottery tickets from a Bad Axe party store will serve time in jail.

Hason Ali Smith, 26, pleaded no contest on Aug. 25 to false pretenses — $1,000 to $20,000 in Huron County 52nd Circuit Court. On Monday morning, Judge Gerald M. Prill sentenced Smith to 330 days in jail, with six days credit, and two years of probation.

Smith must serve 30 days, and the rest will be held in abeyance pending the successful completion of his probation…
