BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — One person is okay after escaping a house fire Saturday.

The first floor of a one-and-a-half story wood-frame duplex caught fire Saturday around 8 a.m. on West Helen M Montgomery Avenue, prompting Battle Creek Fire Department (BCFD) crews to respond.
One person inside had exited before crews arrived and emergency responders cleared them at the scene.
