WAVERLY TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Deputies arrested one person after an attempted burglary turned into an altercation Thursday.
A property owner on County Road 665 near 28th Street, after calling the police, confronted two men attempting to steal various scrap metal from storage containers on the property Thursday around 9 p.m. after the owner saw them through surveillance cameras at the scene, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office (VBCSO).

During their exchange, the two suspects ” got into their van and at one point, hit the (property owner’s) vehicle,” deputies said. Following the crash the suspects got back out and began arguing with the property owner and other person until the property owner fired a round from his pistol into the ground.
When deputies arrived they arrested one of the suspects, a 37-year-old Paw Paw man, but were unable to arrest the second because he fled on foot before they got there…
