KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Women leaders across Kalamazoo County are coming together to provide 200 Thanksgiving meals to local families facing food insecurity.
Known as the Kalamazoo County Women Leaders Thanksgiving Food Drive, the initiative comes in response to ongoing uncertainty surrounding Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and the effects delays are having on families.
“Let’s do something that really shows the support for families and children that are kind of left on the margins or just barely making it,” Gwendolyn Hooker, vice president, Kalamazoo County Housing Commission, said. “We as the leaders in this community really wanted to set a standard of what people and communities should be doing when there’s other people less fortunate.”…
