FTC urges West Michigan to watch out for fake website scams this Black Friday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Most of us will start our Christmas and holiday shopping on Black Friday, but the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) says they’re getting more reports about fake websites.

According to the FTC, the web pages look real, but are set up to trick you and get your financial information.

“Avoid clicking on links that you get unexpectedly,” Rosario Menendez, assistant director in the FTC’s Division of Consumer and Business Education in the Bureau of Consumer Protection, said. “We are all getting a lot of links, for example, on text messages.”
