UNSOLVED: Murder of Erik Cross remains unresolved; frustration mounts over lack of charges

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. — More than 40 years after the murder of Erik Cross, 16, in Vicksburg, Mich., the case remains unsolved despite claims from a former Kalamazoo County undersheriff who says investigators know who’s responsible.

Cross was killed in June 1983 after attending a house party celebrating Vicksburg High School’s graduating class of that year, according to former Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas.

Matyas told News Channel 3 that Cross was tied to a car with a rope and dragged down a road, then run over multiple times to make his death appear as a hit-and-run. He was found dead by his father in front of their home the following morning…
