‘Amazing’: Kalamazoo woman spends $20 on lottery tickets, wins $3M

PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — A Kalamazoo woman spent $20 on Mega Millions tickets and ended up winning $3 million.

Carol Bukant, 79, and her husband bought the tickets at 4421 W. Centre Ave. in Portage, according to the Michigan Lottery. She matched the five white balls in the Nov. 14 drawing.

“The next morning, my husband checked (the tickets), and we were both shaky and excited when we thought we’d won $1 million,” she told the Michigan Lottery. “Shortly after, we realized we had a 3X multiplier and actually won $3 million. It was amazing!”

Bukant says she plans to save the money.

The odds of winning the lottery are slim. For example, there’s a 1 in 292.2 million chance of winning the Powerball jackpot and a 1 in 290 million chance of winning the Mega Millions…
