After 6 years of vacancy, a new bar opens in historic downtown Kalamazoo building

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A new bar is bringing life back to a long-vacant space in downtown Kalamazoo.

Alley Cat opened its doors to customers Nov. 22 and celebrated its grand opening Friday with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The bar focuses on craft cocktails, ciders and beers to go along with a menu of small plates and shareables.

The restaurant space in the historic 132-year-old Michigan Avenue building at 266 E. Michigan Avenue sat vacant for six years before investors launched a redevelopment project that includes the bar and 11 new loft-style apartments on the building’s upper floors…
