Lakeview Park Renovation Earns Award for Enhancing Recreation and Accessibility for Portage Residents

The City of Portage’s Lakeview Park Renovation has received the Public Works Project of the Year award in the Structures Category ($1 Million–$5 Million) from the APWA Southwest Michigan Branch. The project aimed to update one of the city’s oldest parks.

It is scheduled for completion in October 2025 and is managed by Portage Parks & Recreation. The renovation cost $1.87 million. Funding came from the American Rescue Plan Act, the city’s Capital Improvement Program, and private donations.

Key improvements include an 810-foot canal boardwalk with 24 new light poles, expanded fishing piers, a Game Pocket recreational area, an Inspiration Garden pergola, updated trails, and a new bike rental system…
