Feds: Man who had fentanyl disguised as oxycodone gets prison

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — Officials say a Battle Creek man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after police discovered thousands of pills that resembled oxycodone but actually contained fentanyl.

Nazzarie Carmouche-Heath, 29, previously pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Michigan.

When police searched his home in March, they found 4,714 counterfeit pills that contained fentanyl, the office said. Police also found two guns and thousands in cash, according to authorities.

“Prosecuting fentanyl dealers is always a priority for my office because this drug is particularly deadly,” U.S. Attorney Timothy VerHey stated. “It is easy for casual drug users to overdose on this drug, especially when it is disguised as some other controlled substance like it was here.”…
