KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Kalamazoo Valley Gleaners is celebrating a successful year of combating hunger in West Michigan and beyond.
The nonprofit, which opened in January with the goal of reducing food waste by transforming imperfect produce into meals, has successfully produced about 3.5 million servings of fruits and vegetables, donated by local farmers.
Produce is washed, trimmed by volunteers, chopped and dehydrated, allowing it to be shipped overseas to refugee camps, schools, missions and orphanages.
