Proposed Marshall data center met with concerns from residents

MARSHALL, Mich. (WOOD) — Among a string of data centers proposed for West Michigan is a project developers are looking to build in Marshall.

Alterra Development is looking to build the Marshall Technology & Energy Center in the Brooks Industrial Park. During its October meeting, the city’s Local Development Finance Authority approved a purchase agreement for more than 200 acres of land for the potential data center.

While it wasn’t on the agenda during the LDFA’s meeting on Thursday, several residents spoke against the project during a public comment period.

“I’m just so frustrated and angry,” one woman said. “We moved here to live in a small town to raise our children in. …  The people who live here, the majority of them, are not living here to live near these facilities.”…
