Finding a caregiver in Michigan is already hard, and the problem is getting worse

MICHIGAN — There is already a shortage of caregivers for Michigan’s aging population, and projections show the problem is going to get much worse.

Judy Atwood needs a walker to get around her Kalamazoo apartment. The 87-year-old fell several years ago while a snowbird escaping Michigan winters.

“I had two new hips, and when I fell, I fell on my hip and it broke. It came apart, all the pieces, and it broke my femur,” Atwood said. “So, my leg was broken and my hip was broken.”
