KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Kalamazoo’s PlazaCorp Realty Advisors are getting major state support worth millions to transform three brownfield sites into housing, commercial space and a hotel.
On Monday, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and its Michigan Strategic Fund approved over $96 million in private investments for downtown Kalamazoo and the reconstruction of three brownfield lots.
“Through this plan, we are transforming previously underutilized and contaminated properties into vibrant destinations that strengthen downtown, stimulate economic activity, and create lasting benefits for the community,” said Trisha Kidd, director of project management at PlazaCorp Realty Advisors, in a statement.

The Transformational Brownfield Plan is expected to create over 2,000 jobs and nearly 8,000 new housing units across West Michigan, including in Kalamazoo.
