Holiday meals and toys reach Kalamazoo residents in need ahead of holidays

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — More than 180 hot meals and thousands of dollars in toys were handed directly to people in need in Kalamazoo, as volunteers worked to bring holiday relief to families ahead of Christmas.

The giveaway took place behind the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission, where volunteers distributed over 100 Costco rotisserie chickens, along with rolls, pies, fruit, gloves, hats and emergency blankets.

By mid-afternoon, the focus shifted to children staying at the Mission. Organizers donated nearly $3,400 worth of toys, which will be included in holiday kits for kids who may otherwise go without gifts this season.
