Battle Creek nonprofit CEO to be arraigned on seven additional charges

CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. — The leader of a Battle Creek nonprofit faces additional charges after he was accused of welfare fraud earlier this week.

Damon Brown is the former CEO of Reintegration to Support and Empower, also known as R.I.S.E., and will be arraigned Friday on two counts of conducting criminal enterprises, two counts of embezzlement, two counts of money laundering, and false pretenses.

On Tuesday, Calhoun County officials alleged he applied for food assistance over five years while falsely claiming he had no or minimal income, despite making more than $100,000 in 2022 and 2023.
