New year, new life: First babies of 2026 welcomed across West Michigan hospitals

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Three West Michigan families welcomed a new addition on the first day of the new year.

At Bronson Birthplace in Kalamazoo, the Kilmartin family welcomed a healthy baby boy at 12:19 a.m., according to Bronson Health Thursday.

Weighing 6 pounds, 2 ounces and measuring 19 inches long, the baby’s parents, Pete and Demi Kilmartin, and his big sister are all doing well. They’re thrilled to welcome him to the family, officials said.
