KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The chief of the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department is retiring and his replacement has been named.
After eight years as chief of police and 31 years of service altogether, Bryan Ergang will retire from the department Friday. Current TKPD Lt. Scott Jackson has been appointed as the next chief once Ergang retires, according to the township.

Ergang first joined TKPD in 1995. Throughout his time with the department, he helped reestablish a community policing unit, started a K-9 unit, developed an IT department and increased staffing, including hiring three times the national average of female officers, the township said.
“Serving the Kalamazoo community who welcomed me so long ago, and working alongside the dedicated men and women of the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department has been the greatest honor of my career,” Ergang wrote in a TKPD post on social media. “I am proud of what we have accomplished together and confident the department is well positioned for the future.”…
