Township near Kalamazoo could receive $2 million if energy storage project moves forward

OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, MI — Oshtemo Township could receive almost $2 million if a Battery Energy Storage System facility is built within the township’s borders.

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy gives municipalities $5,000 per megawatt if a company works within a township ordinance to build a BESS, said Jodi Stefforia, the township’s planning director.
