KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A man will spend at least a decade and a half behind bars for his role in a drive-by shooting that left one man dead and two others injured on Mother’s Day of 2023.
Andrew Johnson, 20, was sentenced to 15 to 40 years in prison with credit for 266 days after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and felony firearm charges in January just days before his jury trial was set to begin.

Johnson, who was 18 at the time, and two other men were accused of committing a drive-by shooting that killed Marcus Pierce, 33, on Ada Street near N Westnedge Avenue on May 14, 2023. Two other people, a 58-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man, were injured.
Johnson’s co-defendant Demario Deonte Jackson previously pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the shooting and is serving an 18 to 50-year sentence in prison. Another co-defendant, Dontaviour Lawrel Smith, 23, was extradited from Georgia last year on a nine-count felony warrant, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said in a statement.
