Severe Winter Weather Caused High Demand for DoorDash Drivers
Who wants to go out for food when it’s -12 degrees out? Not many, but the bad winter weather did drum up a lot of business for DoorDash Drivers in West Michigan.
The last couple of weeks there has been snow, icy roads, and well below zero temperatures that closed many schools, freeways due to accidents, and many people staying home from work, or working from home.
When it’s so bad that no one wants to go out, services like DoorDash, Uber Eats, and other food delivery businesses see a spike in deliveries. Restaurants reported that order volume increased during this time, and proved crucial for people like the elderly who couldn’t safely leave their homes.
While some drivers found the weather conditions to be a good opportunity for higher tips and less traffic, others found it too dangerous, with some choosing not to work due to hazardous roads.
