PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — A family in Portage is reflecting on a chaotic experience with laughter and joy.
It’s the birth of their second child, whose entrance to the world came as a surprise.
“In that moment, I was starting to have a panic attack but I had to kind of lock in a little bit and regroup,” father Jessiah Short said.A moment to figure out how to deliver a baby came at an apartment complex parking lot on Austrian Pine Way.
“By the time I got on the phone with 911, they were like, ‘Oh, you’re here to call about the screaming lady.’ I said, ‘Yeah, that’s us. We’re the screaming lady,’” Jessiah said.Victory Short was in labor for days. Baby Sire wasn’t due until February 13, but on Monday February 2, he decided it was time. The family attempted to get to the hospital, but only made it to the car.The delivery wasn’t just memorable for the family, but also the police officers involved.“Walking up and watching this guy deliver his own child was like, ‘Oh, that’s not something I ever thought in my entire life I would ever witness or be a part of,’” Portage Police officer Kaitlin Dey said…
