Ex-manager, fired in eavesdropping scandal, settles lawsuit with Kalamazoo Township

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI — A wrongful termination lawsuit was dismissed after the parties reached an undisclosed settlement.

Former Kalamazoo Township Manager Dexter Mitchell filed the lawsuit was in May 2024, after he was fired amid controversy in the township.

Mitchell allegedly recorded a private, closed-session meeting between township board members and the township attorney in March 2023. He pleaded no contest to a lower misdemeanor charge of willful neglect, and the felony charge was dismissed as part of an agreement…
