KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A new bar with a retro vibe is celebrating its grand opening in Kalamazoo this weekend.
A ribbon-cutting was held Friday morning for Old Skool Bar in the City Centre building at 125 S. Kalamazoo Mall. The bar features pool tables, vintage video games, pinball machines, a foosball table, Skee-Ball and a jukebox filled with CDs from the ’90s.
The space has been vacant since The Union closed during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Union was a gathering place for live music in downtown Kalamazoo, and the owner of Old Skool wants to bring back that kind of social space on the mall.

“We’re excited to bring some live music and some live entertainment in a place where people can come,” James Flora said. “Hopefully follow the rules and leave their cellphone at home, or at least in their pocket, and turn them off and be present with each other and spend some good quality time just connecting with each other.”…
