BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — A third Dunkin’ Donuts is on the horizon, pending a rezoning approval from city commissioners.
OM Group, a Chicago-based franchisee with 48 Dunkin’ locations across the Midwest, is seeking approval from city officials to rezone 18 Emerald Ave. from residential use to commercial use for the purpose of building a Dunkin’ with a drive-thru, according to the rezoning application.

If approved, developers said they plan to combine five parcels of land that they represent on behalf of the owner Rita Askler Trust, including 18 Emerald Ave., into a single property for the restaurant. Four of the plots are already zoned for commercial use.
Within the OM Group plots are two vacant houses, one at 18 Emerald Ave. and another at 1479 W. Michigan Ave., that would be demolished to make room for the Dunkin’, a point the Battle Creek City Planning Commission noted as aligned with the city’s 2018 City of Battle Creek Master Plan, meant to guide the city’s development for 10 to 20 years from implementation.
They do admit, however, the future land use guide within the master plan is a little hard to read, making it difficult to discern what city planners intended for 18 Emerald Ave. when they finalized the guide in 2018…
