Over 1,500 art students featured at Kalamazoo institute

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Starting next weekend, visitors to the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts can check out Young Artists of Kalamazoo County, an annual exhibit showcasing artwork made by local elementary and middle school students.

“You see the joy emanating from these students when they see their piece on the wall,” Jennifer Cooley, KIA director of museum education and community engagement, said.

Carousel at Grand Rapids Public Museum finally restored

Featuring artwork from more than 1,500 participating elementary and middle school students at seven districts, the annual Young Artists of Kalamazoo County gallery invites classrooms to celebrate fine arts through individual and collaborative pieces.

“The art teachers in each school select the pieces that are on display,” Cooley said.

During KIA’s opening weekend starting Saturday, guests can enjoy a photo booth and free admission to the museum…
