‘We save the lives of hundreds’: Animal rescue fights to stay open after zoning violation

VICKSBURG, Mich. — An animal rescue and rehab owner is fighting to keep her business open after Schoolcraft Township officials ordered to have it shut down.

On Feb. 25, the owners of Forgotten Souls and Rescue Rehab received a notice in the mail from Schoolcraft Township officials, alerting them that they have 15 days to contact the township and confirm the rescue has been discontinued and removed from its property on Portage Road.

In the notice, Zoning Administrator Shellie Briggs states that an animal rescue shelter is not permitted at the property.
