Three killed as tornado rips through southern Michigan destroying buildings

Three people were killed and at least 12 others injured after a powerful tornado tore through southern Michigan on Friday, flattening buildings, snapping trees and sending residents scrambling for cover.

The storm struck the Union City area in Branch County before carving a path of destruction through nearby communities, including Three Rivers. Officials said three of the injured required hospitalization, though the names of those killed have not yet been released.

Storm chasers and residents captured dramatic footage of the massive twister as it moved across the region, tossing debris into the air and ripping apart structures. Witnesses described the storm sounding “like a freight train” as the tornado ripped through the city…
