Residents push ultimatum for township leader: Resign or give up your liquor license

COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, MI — A 1983 rule in Comstock Township’s code says elected officials can’t be “interested” in “the manufacture for sale or distribution of alcoholic liquor.”

Ben Martin, township supervisor and owner of Soil Friends Hard Cider Co., said that doesn’t apply to his business.

But someone — whose name is redacted in township documents obtained via FOIA request — is calling for Martin to either step down from the role of supervisor or give up his liquor license…
