KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Michigan High School Athletic Association has selected 13 student-athletes from Class A member schools to receive scholarships through the MHSAA/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Award program.
Portage Northern’s Omar Elghawy and Lakeview’s Lilamae Frank are among the athletes who will receive $2,000 college scholarships.
Elghawy played four seasons of varsity tennis, and will play his second of varsity lacrosse this spring. He earned all-conference and academic all-state recognition in tennis and served as team captain as a senior. The National Honor Society member also served as student body president. He competed two years as part of DECA and forensics teams, participated in the Kalamazoo Nonviolent Opponents of War group throughout high school, and earned the Martin Luther King Youth Social Justice Award from the Kalamazoo city commission…
