Kalamazoo to cut Howard Street to three lanes, add crosswalk to improve safety

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The City of Kalamazoo is eyeing Howard Street as a part of its Safe Streets for all Initiative.

Next summer, Howard Street will undergo a major transformation, with the city reducing its four lanes to three, and adding an additional crosswalk.

City traffic engineer Dennis Randolph said drivers speed on Howard more than any other spot in Kalamazoo, often ignoring the posted 30 mph speed limit.
