ALMENA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A fisherman contacted deputies when his live sonar system picked up a suspicious shape in the water that turned out to be a stolen vehicle.
It happened Wednesday on Wolf Lake in Almena Township. The fisherman showed deputies with the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office photos that his Garmin LiveScope sonar system picked up. It looked to be a vehicle 25 feet underwater.
The Van Buren County Dive Team made their way into Wolf Lake Thursday, where they found the vehicle — a Dodge Ram pickup that had been reported stolen out of Kalamazoo County in October.
Divers found that fish and other aquatic life had turned the truck into a habitat while it was underwater for months. The team “took care to safely return fish and other wildlife back into Wolf Lake,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a release.
Deputies are investigating to find out how the truck got there…
