KALAMAZOO, Mich. — An organization held a 5k in Kalamazoo on Saturday to raise awareness about maternal disparities.
Cradle Kalamazoo held their 5k, called Miles for Black Mamas, as part of Black Maternal Health Week.

Black Maternal Health Week aims to raise awareness and resources for black maternal care and infant mortality rates, which one organizer said is uneven in the county.
“In Kalamazoo County, the role of Cradle Kalamazoo is to reduce the infant mortality rate for black babies in Kalamazoo County, as well as in disparities between black babies and their white counterparts,” said Jameca Patrick-Singleton, executive director of Cradle Kalamazoo.
