Governor Whitmer to attend groundbreaking ceremony of new recovery housing project

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is joining Edison Community Partners at the groundbreaking ceremony for a new recovery housing program on Tuesday.

The City of Kalamazoo announced on Thursday the approval of $350,000 in HOME Investment Partnerships Program grant money to support the Kalamazoo Recovery Housing project, or Kalrecovery, bringing the city’s financial support for the project to more than $1 million of the project’s total estimated development costs of $22,327,121.

On Tuesday, state officials including Gov. Whitmer are joining project partners for the official groundbreaking ceremony at 1:30 p.m.

Kalrecovery will be a 48-unit affordable housing complex designed to support people enrolled in Problem-Solving Courts — an alternative to imprisonment after nonviolent offenses offered to people with substance use disorders (SUD) and mental illnesses…
