Students test skills alongside local agencies during Van Buren Tech mock disaster

LAWRENCE, Mich. — Students at Van Buren Tech in Lawrence got hands-on experience in a large scale, highly realistic ‘mock disaster’ Tuesday morning and afternoon.

The Mock Disaster brings students together with local emergency responders, industry professionals, and community volunteers to carry out an unexpected scenario.

Students responded in real-time to the various scenarios, including fires, wounded patients, and more. The goal of the simulation was for students to apply their training and technical skills in a high-pressure environment.

Michigan State Police, Kalamazoo Public Safety, Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office, and Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office were among the agencies who participated in the simulation for educational purposes…
