ATHENS, Mich. – In the darkness of a basement on Pine Creek Indian Reservation, something extraordinary is happening.

A single bulb burns overhead. A brush coated in orange moves across a large canvas. And Nickole Keith, who is an artist, activist, and tribe member, is doing what she was born to do.
