Sheriff and farmer warn against crop thefts

HARTFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A Southwest Michigan farmer and sheriff are warning against stopping to pick produce from roadside fields, reminding people it’s theft just like any other kind.

“Potentially you could have a criminal record for going on a farmer’s field and taking a handful of asparagus if they see fit to prosecute you for it,” Van Buren County Sheriff Dan Abbott said.
