Patients and employees across southwest Michigan are celebrating a major milestone this year as Bronson Healthcare marks 125 years of service, according to a community announcement.
Founded in 1901 as the region’s first hospital, Bronson has grown into southwest Michigan’s largest health system, now employing more than 9,000 people and with hospitals in Battle Creek, Paw Paw and South Haven. The organization’s continued growth and innovation have earned it national recognition in 2026, including being named the No. 1 academic medical center in the country (Bronson Methodist Hospital) by Premier Inc., and being recognized by Forbes as a Top Hospital, with both Bronson Methodist Hospital and Bronson Battle Creek each receiving an overall five-star rating, according to the announcement.
A legacy of care and community impact
Bronson’s expansion over the past century has positioned it as a leader in advanced medicine and community health. The system now has 747 licensed beds and 1,700 medical staff members serving the region.
“At Bronson our greatest strength has always been advanced medicine delivered with a human touch — innovation driven by curiosity, the pursuit of excellence and the absolute highest quality of healthcare with an experience that feels comforting and personal,” Bill Manns, president and CEO of Bronson Healthcare, said in the announcement.
