WARN: Menards announces Three Rivers layoffs after tornado

THREE RIVERS, Mich. (WOOD) — More than two months after a devastating tornado hit Three Rivers, Menards announced plans to lay off dozens of staff members at a local store.

The Menards on Warner Drive has been closed indefinitely since taking a near-direct hit from an EF 2 tornado on March 6. Now, according to a WARN letter filed with the state, 68 staff members will lose their jobs at least “temporarily.”

The notice gives the reason for the layoffs as “natural disaster-tornado” and lists the effective date as May 13. The affected jobs include cleaner operator, head cashier, morning stock and yard, according to state records.

At least 10 people sustained injuries, and several homes and businesses were damaged by flying debris and strong winds that reached speeds of 130 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
