KALAMAZOO, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal softball team improved to 28-1 overall following a doubleheader sweep Tuesday at Kalamazoo Central, 5-0 and 14-3 in five innings.
In the first game, Laynie VanAken tossed a two-hit shutout with no walks and 17 strikeouts. Addy Bucklin hit a two-run double, Mya Porter went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Audrina Bucklin added a two-RBI single, and Mackenzie Searing doubled.
The Cardinals strung together a twelve-hit attack in the second game. Laynie VanAken doubled, hit a two-run homer, and drove in four runs total, while older sister Rylie had two RBI doubles and Porter went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.
