16 Kansas City bars approved to stay open until 5 a.m. during World Cup

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Sixteen Kansas City bars and restaurants have been approved to stay open until 5 a.m. during the World Cup, which runs through July 19.

Kansas City’s Neighborhood Services Department received 17 applications from businesses hoping to extend their hours. One was denied because it fell outside the entertainment district boundaries set by the city’s ordinance.

To qualify, businesses had to submit a security plan, hold a current retail liquor license, operate within a designated entertainment district and have no recent issues with the city or police.

Security and staffing

Missie B’s on 39th Street is one of the 16 approved businesses. Co-owner Patrick Hall said the bar hired three additional security staff, added staggered shifts and has cameras monitoring both the building and parking lots.

“We want to take the opportunity, of course. So yeah, we’re for it,” Hall said…
