Stars and Stripes Picnic, Liberty Memorial fireworks Saturday at FIFA Fan Festival

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Fireworks will be set off behind the Liberty Memorial as usual this year on the Fourth of July, but things will look a little different with FIFA Fan Festival going on.

While the best place to view the fireworks is on the grounds of the National World War I Museum and Memorial, capacity at FIFA Fan Festival is limited to about 25,000. Last year 93,000 people attended the fireworks show according to National World War I Museum and Memorial President Matthew Naylor. As a result, they are expanding the footprint of the Stars and Stripes Picnic to include Penn Valley Park.

Naylor and the company producing the fireworks show say with America’s 250th birthday coinciding with the World Cup in Kansas City there was no question this year’s fireworks would be bigger and better than ever.

“We are here celebrating the Memorial’s Centennial and we are celebrating America’s 250th and we are celebrating people from all around the world at the World Cup, what a fabulous thing that is,” Naylor said…
