Amtrak service disrupted following UP derailment in Missouri

WARRENSBURG, Mo. — Amtrak service between St. Louis and Kansas City remains disrupted today (Friday, July 10) following the Thursday derailment of a Union Pacific train in Warrensburg.

About 25 cars derailed just east of Warrensburg shortly after 4 a.m., KCTV-TV reports. No hazardous materials were involved. Some roads were closed briefly as a result, but they were reopened by 7:30 a.m.

The derailment led to the cancellation of both round trips of the Missouri River Runner on Thursday between Kansas City and St. Louis; bus substitution was provided for at least one set of trains. According to “train status” information on the Amtrak website, today’s westbound trains 311 and 319 have been canceled between St. Louis and Kansas City, as as has train 316 between Kansas City and St. Louis. Train No. 318 has been canceled between Kansas City and Kirkwood, Mo. Bus transportation was not available for train 311 but is planned for the other trains…
