Kansas City apartment tenants swelter without power as city reviews repair plan

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Tenants at the North Lawn Apartments on Kansas City’s northeast side say they are living without electricity and air conditioning during the hottest stretch in three years, even as the city works to move forward on $500,000 in emergency repairs approved last week.

Rochelle Lee, a North Lawn tenant, said her apartment had no electricity for three weeks at the time of the interview. A thermostat inside her unit read 89 degrees.

“No food, no water. Can’t cook, can’t eat, can’t do anything,” Lee said. “All I can do is bathe.”…
